Complete Guidelines for University Admission in Bangladesh
Navigating the public university admission system in Bangladesh can be complicated due to varying required GPAs, secondary timer rules, without 4th subject criteria, and specific HSC grade requirements for specialized units like Architecture or Genetic Engineering.
1. Dhaka University (DU) Admission System
Dhaka University completely restricts Second-Time admission seekers. You must be a regular student passing HSC in the current admission year.
- Science (A Unit): Requires a total GPA of 8.00 (with 4th subject) with a minimum of 3.50 in both SSC and HSC.
- Humanities (B Unit) & Commerce (C Unit): Requires a total GPA of 7.50 with a minimum of 3.00 individually.
2. Why "Without 4th Subject" GPA Matters
Institutions like BUP (Bangladesh University of Professionals) and specific units in other universities often set their baseline eligibility based on your GPA excluding the 4th optional subject. This prevents students from artificially inflating their GPA to meet cut-offs. Our calculator accurately processes both constraints simultaneously.
3. Engineering & Armed Forces Medical (AFMC/AMC)
For AFMC and specialized engineering universities (MIST, BUET), the requirements are strictly tied to specific subjects.
- AFMC/AMC: Requires Biology in HSC. They often dictate a minimum Total GPA of 10.00 (with 4th subject) and minimum specific grades in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- MIST / Engineering: Shortlisting relies heavily on your exact grades or marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Missing an 'A-' in Math can disqualify you from appearing in the admission test.
4. The GST Cluster & 2nd Timers
24 general and science & technology universities conduct a unified admission test known as the GST Cluster. They allow second-time candidates, making them a major fallback for students aiming for public universities.
